Wedding | Jeanette & Ian

For Jeanette Human (now van der Westhuizen), the Black Oystercatcher is her second home. “This is the place I have spent most of my life, apart from my parent’s house.” So Jeanette, daughter of Dirk and Sandra Human (Black Oystercatcher owners) had no doubt that she would pledge her love for husband Ian van der Westhuizen at our venue.

The months of planning – in absolute detail – finally paid off when, on 27 November 2021, she and Ian celebrated their wedding with family and friends at her second home. And they did so in true Black Oystercatcher-style: “It was all about eating good food, drinking great wine and laughing, loving and dancing the night away. We could not have asked for better.”

Jeanette, Sandra and the Black Oystercatcher team transformed the wedding venue, bringing a mixture of vintage brass and copper elements, combined with spring forest flowers. “We chose a relaxed bohemian look – light and fun – with earthy animal influences, to match my family’s love for nature.”

Her favourite moment came when she and Ian saw each other across the aisle. “If you wait so long for something you want so much, the hours feel super long – until you finally see each other at opposite ends of the aisle. It made it all worth it.”

Jeanette also took pride in knowing that she and Sandra were responsible for bringing this dream wedding to life. “There is a real spark inside me knowing that my mom and I planned the whole wedding from the flowers, décor, the reception, ceremony and the food (catered by Antoinette Events). We had a vision for my wedding, and the result was exactly as we had envisaged it.”

For Jeanette and Ian, this was truly the best day of their lives so far. “We had everyone we cared for and who cares for us in one beautiful space, celebrating our journey as two people commit to spending their lives together.”

The Black Oystercatcher is one of the prettiest venues that we looked at and marrying here was definitely the best choice we could make.

Our Wedding Venue

The wedding venue with a difference

We added a new venue to our centuries-old farmstead in 2016. It’s a venue that merges perfectly with the rich Overberg country: glass doors and windows all around, connecting you to nature.

Exposed brick walls, wooden beams, and a large veranda leading out to the infinity pool. And beyond that, the stretching Agulhas Plain countryside. Find out more.
