Cosy and colourful: Danike’s autumn-inspired wedding

Our wedding day was the most magical day ever. We had always wanted an autumn/winter wedding and everything that went with it. And thanks to Nikki and her team at Antoinette Events and Salmon and the team at the Black Oystercatcher, our wedding surpassed our wildest dreams!

Both the groom and I lived overseas – and we had to organise this wedding from afar. I was living in the Middle East and my fiancé in Namibia. It certainly added an interesting, and at times very stressful element, and we could not have done any of it without the amazing support from Nikki and Salmon (and my mom).

When we looked at venues, there were a number of boxes that needed to be ticked.

Because we knew we wanted to get married in the cooler months, we wanted our wedding day to be cosy, colourful and inviting, so a fireplace was really important to us. We also wanted somewhere where we could picture different areas, a place where people could dance without the music being to overpowering for the people who wanted to catch up and have a chat.

My family lives in the area, and we spent many university holidays and Christmas holidays as a couple in Struisbaai. We’d often have family lunches at the Black Oystercatcher Restaurant, even before the new beautiful venue was built.

 

When we came to have a look, the venue ticked all our boxes and it was so special to us that we had a history with the area and the venue!

I loved the fact that I could picture our perfect wedding day in the venue, come rain or sunshine! We were blessed with a beautiful clear day and could make the most of all the venue had to offer. I’ve always dreamt of an autumn-inspired wedding, with tweed, pumpkins and lots of fairy lights!

 

As for the menu…

Our menu was wonderfully put together to take into account our preferences and the cosy winter feeling of the wedding. Our pre-drinks, warm cocktails and small glasses of sherry, were beautifully displayed and presented. The starter was a warming soup, followed by a hearty spitbraai buffet and we had a trio of delicious desserts. Our evening wound down with an amazing cheese table which was a gift from my parents. And there were also snack bags for the guests to take cheese home with them. Everyone raved about the food and there was NO hungry soul by the end of the evening.

Our flowers and décor were absolutely stunning.

The venue allows you to really adapt the space to any style and Nikki and Salmon truly outdid themselves! We can’t thank you enough for all the hard work and late hours that went into making our special day so amazing!
