Summer Festivals at the Black Oystercatcher

Five days. Three festivals. And a whole lot of fun.

Here at the Black Oystercatcher, we know something about bringing people together for a summer festival.

So this year – we’re upping the stakes:
You’re now invited to three festivals, running from 26-30 December.

26 Dec   |   27 Dec   |   28 Dec   |   29 Dec   |   30 Dec

And our festivals are all about YOU; a chance to unwind after a busy year, with quality, freshly-prepared meals, cool-climate wines, refreshing craft beer and awesome South African bands.

Here’s our Summer Festival offering –
each one with its very unique sights, sounds, and tastes:

Is there a better food and wine pairing? Refreshing wine and ocean-fresh seafood; combined with a toasty summer’s day in the Overberg countryside.

The Black Oystercatcher Restaurant will be serving delicious seafood options, including our renowned seafood paella.

And we’re joined by the awesome Bottomless Coffee Band (for both days)
– you’ve got to experience their extraordinary sound, yet relaxing vibe. Husband and wife duo, Esté and Lourens, will fill the Black Oystercatcher venue with their acoustic folk-rock and afro-blues sounds. They play 12 instruments between them, creating the sound of a full band – and singing while playing.

Enjoy our cool-climate wines

WINES & CRAFT BEER

Our seafood dishes are complemented by our range of five cool-climate wines, and of course our ice-cold Sauvignon blanc and White Pearl. For beer lovers, the five Fraser’s Folly craft beers will be available on tap to cool you down.

Folk Rock Duo

LIVE MUSIC

Making songs about life, love, blues and breakfast – playing 12 instruments! The style of the Bottomless Coffee Band can be described as acoustic folk-rock and afro-blues. We like to refer to it as gourmet music.

Look out over the infinity pool and onto the open, country landscape of the Agulhas Plain, while watching the kids play on the lawn.

Your ticket will secure your seat for the day – including a branded wine glass. Limited tickets available, so make sure to get yours as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

The details: Tickets cost R150. Kids u/4 enter free, and age 4-17 costs R75.
Doors open: 10am – 5pm.

BLUES & BREWS FESTIVAL

28-29 December

WITH ALBERT FROST & THE BLUES BROERS

If you don’t know what it is, it’s the blues – combined with refreshing craft beer from Fraser’s Folly. And of course the best of Black Oystercatcher’s cool-climate wine.

And we’re pairing both our wine and beer with Sliders (like our Brie, Bacon and Green Fig Mini-Burger).

Talented blues rock musician, Albert Frost entertains you on 28 December.
Albert brings his blues roots to the Black Oystercatcher. He is an accomplished guitarist, showcasing acoustic and electric guitars. He performed as a member of the Blues Broers for many years – but in 2015 (after 5 albums together), Albert started his solo career.

And the fun Blues Broers will keep your feet tapping on 29 December.
The Blues Broers launched their musical careers more than 25 years ago, and built up their phenomenal reputation. After calling it a day in 2006, a reunion gig in 2009 brought the band together again. And that sparked the band’s renewal  – albeit with new members joining the band along the way.

South African blues-rock music

LIVE MUSIC

Albert Frost has performed with every major artist in South Africa, and with international artists like Ali Faka Toure and Finley Quaye. He has toured with Simple Minds and R.E.M. and supported the Rolling Stones.

Craft beer on tap

WINES & CRAFT BEER

Our five Fraser’s Folly craft beers will be available on tap to cool you down. We’re the only English-style craft beer in South Africa.

A tasty food pairing

RESTAURANT

5 perfectly paired mini burgers, complimenting our range of 5 craft beers. The sliders also work really well with our 5 cool-climate wines.

‘Out of the Blue’

LIVE MUSIC

Basson Laubscher, well known for his guitar work with the Valiant Swart Band, Zinkplaat and many other local acts, joined the Blues Broers in 2016 after Albert Frost, long time guitarist, left the band at the end of 2015 to pursue his solo career.

Kick back and relax, enjoying our fresh seasonal mini burgers, and fantastic blues music in our venue, or sitting on the patio looking out over the Agulhas Plain.

TRADITIONAL FOOD & MUSIC FESTIVAL

30 December

MET DIE BAARDSKEERDERSBOS ORKES

On Saturday, the music and menu take on a traditional tone.

Tasty menu options like Game Pie, Tripe and a range of homemade desserts work perfectly with our cool-climate wine and craft beer.

And the legendary and rejuvenated Baardskeerdersbos Orkes offer their distinctive and uplifting folk music.
This traditional ‘Boeremusiek’ band is legendary – well beyond the boundaries of the Overberg. The band members are truly local, though – all growing up in the Strandveld region. And even though Oom Manie passed away, the band lives on.

Old favourites

WINES & CRAFT BEER

Our traditional dishes are complemented by our range of five cool-climate wines, including a dry Rosé, and our Cabernet Merlot or Triton, for the red wine lovers. Ice-cold Fraser’s Folly craft beers will be available on tap.

Baardskeerdersbos-orkes

MUSIEK

Take a step back in time, and experience the sounds of the Strandveld of days gone by.

What else can you enjoy during the festivals?

The views overlooking the natural landscape are worth a whole stack of selfies with friends. Dangle your feet in the infinity pool to cool down. For a lighter meal, check out the deli-style snack options. And don’t forget to pop into our gift shop: you’ll find a range of quality, carefully-selected, and mostly locally-produced goods – you won’t see many of these anywhere else. We know the day of giving has passed; so make this a ‘gift day’ to spoil yourself!

Some administrative points:

Festivals open at 10am daily. Closing time is 5pm. Have your tickets ready at the gate.

Why you’ll be hearing SA’s best musicians…

It’s not by chance that we have the best local musicians entertaining you for five days. These SA bands pair perfectly with our summer festivals, and with your day of relaxation.
